TRT (Testosterone Replacement Therapy) Q & A

What is low testosterone?

Testosterone is a hormone that helps to regulate bone density, fat distribution, muscle mass, sex drive and more. Starting around the age of 30, many men begin to lose 1% of their testosterone production every year. This means that by 40, you could be down 10% of the natural hormone production that drives many important aspects of your life. A more serious form of testosterone loss is hypogonadism, which can drop your hormone production to zero.

A drop in testosterone can lead to all of these possible side effects:

  • Erectile dysfunction
  • Loss of muscle mass
  • Low sex drive
  • Fatigue
  • Depression
  • Irritability
  • Low self-esteem
  • Hair loss
  • Weight gain

If you’re experiencing any of these symptoms and have for an extended period of time, it’s a good idea to call Reno Men’s Health for a consultation to find out your T-score and see if testosterone replacement therapy is the right option to get you back on track.

What is testosterone replacement therapy?

Testosterone replacement therapy can help if you have a low T-score that is interfering with your quality of life or causing other health problems. If, after your consultation, Dr. Hahn determines you are a good candidate for testosterone replacement, the process itself is minimally invasive and can be wrapped up in about half an hour.

Dr. Hahn uses an injectable compound called testosterone cypionate to supplement the amount of testosterone your body is insufficiently producing. The injection is administered in your gluteal muscle, and the injection site alternates sides for each subsequent dose.

The follow-up injections are scheduled seven days apart, and the replacement therapy can continue for as long as you and Dr. Hahn would like. During the therapy, your testosterone levels and blood work are monitored for effectiveness and to determine if more or less testosterone is needed.

What are the benefits of testosterone therapy?

Testosterone replacement isn’t a fountain of youth, but it can do all of the following:

  • Ramp up your sex drive
  • Help with erectile dysfunction
  • Decrease breast tissue
  • Help you sleep more soundly
  • Reduce excess bulk
  • Increase bone density
  • Improve mood
  • Restore energy

Replacement therapy can improve your quality of life and help you avoid the health complications that come from low testosterone. So if you think you may be suffering from low T, call or book an appointment online with Reno Men’s Health.
